Top Tip

Water consistently to maintain a consistent moisture level in the potato bed. They recommend about 1-2 inches  per week, but I have never tried this so will give it a go this year

Planting & Seeding

April is the busiest month for sowing seeds both indoors and outdoors depending on what it is your sowing (please see Calendar of what to do when - thats when in lands!). Be very careful of the frost though as some vegetables can be caught and it will ruin the crop, use a fleece on some gentler plants if late frosts have been forecast.

Companion Planting

This is no science and just an observation from alot of growers but some plants like or grow with other plants rather than just a bed of one type of vegetable.

Some can be space savers too!

There are alot of articles and guides on the internet regarding this but here are a couple of ideas for you to give it a go

Carrots can be planted with Chives, Leeks, Onions, Peas, Radishes, Rosemary or Sage

Corn can be planted with Beans, Cucumbers, Garden Peas, Melons, Potatoes & Squash

Onions can be planted with Beets, Carrots & Lettuce

So give it a go and find something that works for you!
